Within this perfectly intimate square (my sister, my mother, me and my camera), who’s caring for who? I tried to answer to this wondering by implications : watching by underneath.

Lise

In progress project (Orléans, Neuilly sur Marne, Paris) from 1991 to present.
Lise is an autistic person, and my sister. With different cameras, I turned and turned again around the obviousness: I wasn’t taking the pictures, she was. Because from the moment she saw the first prints, she could look at herself and then her look at me -taking her in picture- was prevailing.

Reindeer Earmarking

Pictures captured in Kettujärvi, reindeer herding co-operative of Ivalo, Finnish Lapland, June 2008.
Every night during a week, they gather all their reindeers, they recognise the new born babies and cut their ears following the pattern of the owner’s earmark.

Perfect Tittle-Tattle

In progress project made with short stories in Finnish Lapland (Ivalo, Inari, Sevettijärvi, Nellim, Kittilä, Rovaniemi) from August 2007 to August 2008.
Supported by CEAAC, FRAME, DRAC Alsace, Helsinki CCF.
I went to Lapland thanks to Arto Paasilinna’s novels. I’ve been welcome, not as a family member, but as someone who has to be there. I found everything I was looking for, following a run-away line, right behind all these persons, in their every day life, which is not so ordinary. Arto thinks that we know the same Lapland.
